A total of 11 derelict shipyards out of 14 in Coloane’s Lai Chi Vun Village will be demolished starting next month, Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA) Director Susanna Wong Soi Man said on Sunday.
Wong announced the demolition when talking to reporters at the Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal.
According to Wong, the shipyards to be torn down had their land lease renewals refused by the government this year due to the state of disrepair causing a safety hazard. The demolition of two shipyards in the poorest condition will begin next month, followed by nine others.
