Potential chief executive candidate Sam Hou Fai paid a visit to the headquarters of the Macau Women’s General Association on Rua do Campo yesterday where he listened to opinions and suggestions raised by 13 representatives of the association, commonly known as Fu Luen in Cantonese, his election campaign office said in a statement yesterday.
During the meeting, Lau Kam Ling, who chairs the association, said that she acknowledged Sam’s philosophy of administration.
According to the statement, Lau pledged that her association will continue to give full play to its role as a bridge between the government and residents, in compliance with the local government’s work ensuring the continuation of the successful implementation of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle with Macau characteristics.
During the meeting, the 13 representatives raised opinions on topics such as creating a city that supports children’s development, measures aiming to boost the city’s marriage and birth rates, public housing supply, urban renewal, strengthening support for underprivileged groups, and an improved healthcare system.
According to the statement, Sam praised women’s contributions to promoting Macau’s development.
Meanwhile, Sam also met with senior representatives from the Macau Small and Medium Enterprises Association yesterday, a separate statement said.
The meeting was held at Sam’s election campaign office in Nam Tung Commercial Building in Nam Van.
The SME representatives who attended yesterday’s meeting with Sam included veteran banker Stanley Au Chong Kit, the association’s president.
According to the statement, the representatives raised opinions on topics such as taxation, Macau’s appropriate economic diversification, financial safety, community businesses, environmental protection, legislation aiming to promote business competition, and government tenders.
The representatives also said they expected Sam’s administration to roll out measures aiming to help local SMEs enhance their ability to run their businesses.
Au unsuccessfully ran in the election of Macau’s first chief executive in 1999.
