The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested two local men on Friday for providing illegal accommodation in four residential units in Macau, and a mainlander who entered Macau illegally, a PJ spokesperson said in a regular press conference yesterday.
According to the spokesperson, the two local suspects are a 28-year-old jobless man surnamed Kong, and a 31-year-old real estate agent surnamed Lou, while the mainland suspect is a 37-year-old man surnamed Liu, who told the police that he works for a construction company.
The spokesperson said that the police recently received a tip-off that someone was operating illegal guesthouses in Taipa and in Zape, which were rented out at a daily charge of HK$140 or a monthly payment of HK$5,000.
PJ officers identified and busted the four illegal guesthouses on Friday, where the police also intercepted 21 mainlanders staying there – seventeen males and four females – four of whom worked as illegal currency exchange dealers in Macau, one of whom had overstayed his entry permit for 125 days, while the other “guests” were tourists.
The four illegal currency exchange dealers have been sent back to the mainland for further investigation, the spokesperson said, adding that Liu had been banned in January from entering Macau for eight years for loan sharking and false imprisonment. However, he came back to Macau in July by climbing over the fence underneath the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB) checkpoint.
Kong and Lou were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of providing illegal accommodation, aiding and abetting illegal immigration, while Liu was sentenced to six-months behind bars for illegally entering Macau.
