A local man has been arrested after crashing into the road verge, as well as two trees, and the railings along Avenida Panorâmica do Lago Sai Van and then simply driving away, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The suspect surnamed Wong, who is in his thirties, told the police that he’s a car salesman.
According to Cheong, the police received a report in the early hours of Monday from a carpark security guard at Alameda Dr Carlos d’Assumpcao about a car with both front and rear damage that ruined the carpark, scraping the wheel rims along the surface as the tyres were flat.
The police identified the car owner as Wong, and discovered that he was responsible for the accident in Sai Wan, leaving debris and car-part fragments behind, as well as damaging the road surface in Nape, before entering the car park. Cheong added that despite the police attempting to contact Wong numerous times and even visiting his flat, he did not respond.
Later that day, Wong went to the police station and confessed to causing the accidents. He claimed that he was frightened and unsure of what to do, so he parked the car and returned home.
A breathalyser test showed that his alcohol concentration was 0 grams per litre of blood at the police station.
Wong has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of evading responsibility, Cheong said.
