Macau’s number ofpackage tour visitors surged by 68.8 percent year-on-year to 224,000 last month, with those from mainland China soaring by 70.7 percent to 211,000, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced yesterday.
Mainlanders accounted for 94.2 percent of all inbound package tour visitors.
In addition, foreign tour visitors increased by 44.3 percent to 11,000, and those from South Korea (5,000) and India (2,000) rose by 61.4 percent and 337.5 percent respectively.
In the first eight months, a total of 1,388,000 package tour visitors were recorded, an increase of 127.6 percent year-on-year. Package tour visitors from mainland China surged by 115.5 percent to 1,240,000. Foreign package tour visitors grew by 352.2 percent to 128,000, with those coming from South Korea (51,000) and India (18,000) leaping by 587.9 percent and 1,165.9 percent respectively.
Last month, 22,000 Macau residents bought outbound package tours through travel agencies, up by 102.9 percent year on year, with 20,000 of them visiting the mainland, the bureau said.
