A local man in his sixties was arrested by the Judiciary Police (PJ) on Wednesday for damaging another person’s motorcycle while parking his own, a Public Security Police (PSP) spokesperson said in a regular press conference on Friday.

The suspect told the police that he is a businessman surnamed Ng, the spokesperson said.

According to the spokesperson, PSP received a report from a local man in early August that when he parked his motorcycle in a legal parking space on Rua dos Açores in Taipa, and upon returning to his vehicle, he discovered that it had been moved to a nearby area where parking is prohibited. Furthermore, the victim’s motorcycle bore visible signs of damage to both the fairing and side panels.

After checking the citywide CCTV surveillance system, PSP officers identified the suspect and summoned him to a police station for questioning on Wednesday.

During the interrogation, the suspect claimed that he had moved the motorcycle because it was “obstructing” his own parking, the spokesperson said, adding he admitted that while attempting to move the victim’s vehicle, he accidentally knocked it over, resulting in the damage.

The suspect has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a vandalism charge.
