The Macao University of Tourism (UTM) team won three “Medallions for Excellence” during last month’s 47th WorldSkills Competition.
According to a statement from the public university on Friday, the competition took place from September 10 to 15 in Lyon, central-eastern France and had over 1,400 young competitors from around the world. The three competitors from Macau, all of whom have been trained by UTM, comprised students Huang Wenyi and Chan Chi Lek, along with University of Macau (UM) student Nelia Choi Rodrigues.
The statement noted that Huang, Chan and Rodrigues respectively won “Medallions for Excellence” in Cooking, Hotel Reception and Restaurant Service.
The statement said that Huang and Chan noted that the competition enhanced their skills and adaptability and thanked UTM for providing them with professional training and valuable exchange activities, they also encouraged other students to join the contest as it challenges their skills and offers a “valuable opportunity for self-improvement and growth”.
The statement said that UTM has been entrusted by the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) to serve as the representative entity for Macau’s participation in the competition since 2015. The statement added that this includes the selection and training of competitors in Hotel Reception, Bakery, Pâtisserie and Confectionery, Restaurant Service, and Cooking categories.
