The Health Bureau (SSM) announced yesterday that two more dengue fever cases have been reported, comprising a 37-year-old tourist from the mainland and a 42-year-old non-resident worker (NRW) from Nepal, making them the 12th and 13th cases of travel-associated dengue cases in Macau this year.

According to an SSM statement, the first patient, who came to Macau from the mainland last Thursday and stayed in a flat in Hoi Wan Building in the Praça de Ponte e Horta ( 司打口 ) area with his relatives, developed a fever on Monday and went to the private Kiang Wu Hospital on Tuesday, where he was diagnosed with a red rash on his hands and back.

The second patient, living in Chun Yi Building on Rua dos Curtidores (涼水街) and working in the Avenida Dr Sun Yat Sen (孫逸仙博士大馬路) area, returned to Macau last Tuesday after visiting relatives in Nepal from September 10 and sought treatment at the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre on Saturday and Tuesday due to fever and muscle pain that he came down with last Thursday. Both patients were confirmed yesterday to have been infected with dengue virus type 1 and type 2, respectively.

The statement noted that the two patients, who were in stable condition yesterday, had not visited any local parks, adding that after the onset of the disease, both mainly stayed indoors. None of the household members and colleagues living and working with the two infectees, the bureau noted yesterday, have become ill.

The bureau said that SSM officials would carry out preventive anti-mosquito measures in the vicinity of the patients’ residence, workplace, and their main areas of activity in Macau.
