The government has launched a public tender for building a flyover linking the future Big Taipa Hill Tunnel’s north side with Macau Bridge.

Macau Bridge is the city’s fourth sea crossing connecting the Macau peninsula and Taipa island, which opened early this month.

According to an announcement in the Official Gazette (BO) last week, potential bidders are required to submit their quotations by December 11. The Public Works Bureau (DSOP) will unseal the submitted bids the next day.

The public tender launched last week came after the bureau launched a limited tender on May 29 for the Big Taipa Hill Tunnel project when it requested construction companies to submit their intentions to bid for the project by July 29, with the top five qualified companies, decided by score calculations, to be eligible to submit quotations.

The Big Taipa Hill Tunnel project will be carried out in two phases. The first phase will build the tunnel, spurs leading to Avenida Wai Long and Avenida do Aeroporto on the tunnel’s south side, and the spur on the tunnel’s north side at Pac On.

The limited tender launched in late May is for the Big Taipa Hill Tunnel project’s first phase.

The public tender launched last week is for the Big Taipa Hill Tunnel project’s second phase, namely the flyover linking the tunnel’s north side with Macau Bridge.

A total of eight construction companies had submitted their intentions to bid for the project’s first phase, which were assessed by DSOP officials based on four criteria, namely their respective general ability to carry out construction projects (accounting for 40 percent of the scores), construction techniques and experience (accounting for 30 percent), human resources (accounting for 20 percent), and interview results with officials (accounting for 10 percent).

The bureau also announced the five companies with the highest scores for the project’s first phase in the Official Gazette (BO) last week, according to which they are now required to submit their quotations by January 6.

The Big Taipa Hill Tunnel will enable drivers to travel more directly between Cotai and Pac On, where Macau Bridge lands.
