Construction of a flyover connecting the Zone A land reclamation area and the peninsula near the Macau Peninsula Wastewater Treatment Plant has been completed, the Public Works Bureau (DSOP) announced on its website on Wednesday.
The government is yet to announce the flyover’s opening date.
The 500-metre-long two-way flyover runs between Zone A’s northern part and the peninsula’s Avenida 1º de Maio near the Macau Peninsula Wastewater Treatment Plant in Areia Preta district.
The flyover is officially known as A2.
Construction of the flyover, which got off the ground in November 2022, was carried out by Cheong Kong Construction Company Limited for a price tag of 213.7 million patacas.
The A2 flyover has two lanes – one in each direction.
The A2 flyover is also equipped with a 300-metre-long footbridge on one side, connecting the peninsula’s north-eastern coast and Zone A. The footbridge links a current footbridge there that runs from the coastal walking area to the nearby reservoir’s walking area.
As the A2 flyover has still not come into use, currently there is only one link between the peninsula and Zone A, i.e., the one at the busy Oriental Pearl roundabout (Rotunda da Amizade/友誼圓形地) on the peninsula’s north-eastern coast.
Two more links between Zone A and the peninsula are currently being constructed.
A flyover connecting Zone A and the peninsula near the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal in Zape, officially known as A3, got off the ground in April this year and is scheduled to be completed in March 2027, with a price tag of 608.8 million patacas.
A flyover connecting Zone A and the peninsula near the Macau Science Centre (MSC) in Nape, officially known as AB Link, got off the ground early last month and is scheduled to be completed in October 2027, with a price tag of 2.18 billion patacas.
Meanwhile, construction of a subsidised home-ownership scheme (HOS) estate in Zone A, on plot B4, was completed in late September.
This came after construction of Zone A’s first two HOS estates were completed earlier this year, the one on plot B10 completed in May and the one on plot B9 completed in June.
