Macau recorded three more locally transmitted cases of dengue fever on Tuesday and yesterday, and one more imported case on Tuesday, the Health Bureau (SSM) announced in separate statements.

According to the SSM’s Tuesday statement, the patient is a 61-year-old retired local man who lives in a flat on Rua do Tarrafeiro (沙欄仔街), a family member of whom was diagnosed with dengue fever on Sunday.

SSM staff found the man had symptoms of dengue fever during its dengue fever prevention and control work on Monday, and immediately arranged for blood sampling at the scene, where he was diagnosed with dengue fever type I, the Tuesday statement said.

In another local case found on Tuesday, the patient is a 25-year-old man, who lives in a flat on Rua dos Faitiões (快艇頭街). The statement said he came down with a fever and muscle pain last Monday and was also diagnosed with dengue fever type I by SSM staff during a door-to-door search for potential dengue fever patients, the Tuesday statement said.

Meanwhile, in an imported case reported in the Tuesday statement, the patient is a 43-year-old woman who visited Malaysia between October 19 and November 2, when she came down with a skin, headache, joint pains and general weakness, but did not seek medical treatment there.

The woman then returned to her flat in Hengqin on Saturday, and sought treatment at the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) University Hospital on Monday, where she was diagnosed with dengue fever type III.

Tuesday’s statement said that the woman was in a stable condition, adding that her family members that live with her did not feel unwell.

Meanwhile, yesterday’s statement reported that a 74-year-old woman who also lives near Rua do Tarrafeiro was diagnosed with dengue fever type II on Monday.

SSM also said that a number of local dengue fever cases have been detected in the vicinity of Rua do Tarrafeiro recently. On Monday and Tuesday, the bureau conducted inspections of more than 2,500 households involving 188 buildings and 283 ground-floor shops, and disseminated information on the prevention of dengue fever to nearly 1,900 households in 215 buildings.

In view of the high risk of dengue fever transmission in the risk area around Rua do Tarrafeiro, which has already recorded four cases, the bureau urged people living in or visiting the area to take extra precautions, such as removing stagnant water and taking anti-mosquito measures.
