A number of roads in Macau have been damaged by the leakage of cement and paint from the back of large vehicles during transportation, posing safety risks to motorists and damaging road surfaces, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday, adding that the drivers should properly secure or seal their cargo to prevent leaks or spills that could damage roadways and compromise driving safety.
During recent inspections, IAM officials discovered extensive white paint spills on sections of Avenida da Amizade (友誼橋大馬路) and Avenida de Horta e Costa (高士德大馬路), as well as large quantities of cement slurry on Rua da Imprensa Nacional (官印局街) and nearby roads, and it was later confirmed by police that the spills originated from large vehicles that failed to secure their cargoes during transport.
The bureau has dispatched staff to carry out emergency clean-ups, and for sections affected by cement slurry, manual tools will be used to remove hardened patches, followed by emergency repairs using black road paint on the damaged area and restoring the road markings.
In addition to facing penalties under relevant traffic regulations, drivers responsible for these spills will be held accountable for the costs associated with the clean-ups and road repairs.
