The Housing Bureau (IH) will start tomorrow to arrange for successful applicants on the waiting list to move into their flats in the newly completed social rental housing estate built on the plot of the former CEM power station on Avenida de Venceslau de Morais.
The social housing estate comprising three blocks consists of 1,590 flats, comprising one and two-bedroom units.
The bureau made the announcement in a statement on Friday, which said that the new social housing estate has now been named Mong Son Building.
Construction of the Mong Son social housing estate was completed in late July this year.
After the demolition of the former CEM power station and the subsequent transfer of the plot to the government, the social housing project got off the ground in August 2018.
The plot where the social housing estate is located covers 11,443 square metres, located next to the Macao Daily News Building on Avenida de Venceslau de Morais and the CEM headquarters on Estrada de D. Maria II.
Avenida de Venceslau de Morais serves as a dividing line between Areia Preta district and Mong Ha district.
The social housing project was carried out through two separate tenders – a tender for its pile foundation and basement, and a tender for its superstructure.
The pile foundation and basement work got off the ground in August 2018 and was completed in December 2021, when the superstructure work then got off the ground. The project’s superstructure work was completed in late July this year.
The project’s pile foundation and basement work were carried out by China Construction Engineering (Macau) Company Limited with a price tag of 509 million patacas, while its superstructure work was carried out by Ming Shun Construction and Property Investment Limited with a price tag of 1.25 billion patacas.
Consequently, the construction of the Mong Son social housing estate cost about 1.76 billion patacas in total.
Friday’s IH statement said that Mong Son Building consists of three blocks with 24 to 35 floors each, plus a three-level underground carpark, providing 1,590 flats comprising 885 one-bedroom units and 705 two-bedroom units.
The statement noted that the social housing estate has a public bus terminal on the ground floor, which will start operating in due course.
According to the statement, other podium levels will house commercial facilities and various other communal facilities, which will gradually come into service in the near future, the statement said.
The statement said that the estate’s open-air podium garden is equipped with various recreational and fitness facilities.
The estate’s underground carpark comprises parking spaces for cars and motorcycles.
According to the statement, flats in the Mong Son social housing estate will be supplied with central natural gas system.
The statement noted that Mong Son Building is the third social housing estate completed during the current five-year term government. According to the statement, the three social housing estates, namely the newly completed Mong Son Building, Mong Tak Building which was completed in 2021, and Toi Fai Building which was completed in 2022, provide a total of 2,868 flats.
The statement also said that four other social housing projects under construction in the Zone A land reclamation area will provide 4,088 flats.
