A man and a woman from the mainland have been arrested for stealing a camera that they found on the street, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lei Chan Hong said at a regular press conference yesterday.
The female suspect is surnamed Lin and the male suspect is surnamed Zhong. Both are in their forties and they came to Macau as tourists.
According to Lei, the police received a report from a woman in August saying that she had lost her camera worth 5,700 patacas in a Cotai casino.
After scrutinising their citywide CCTV camera system, the police identified Lin and Zhong as the suspects who had picked up the camera and intercepted them when they re-entered Macau through the Hengqin checkpoint.
Under questioning, they admitted to stealing the camera out of greed.
The duo have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing theft-by-finding charges, Lei said.
