MGM’s new residency “Macau 2049” is slated to have its premiere on Sunday at MGM COTAI, being set to offer a spectacle at its theatre that blends culture with technology.

Presented by the integrated resort operator in collaboration with leading Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou, who directed the show, “Macau 2049” spans eight chapters with subtitles in multiple languages.

It is the first residency that Zhang has directed in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), according to information provided at yesterday’s media preview.

The show, in collaboration with 20 world-level teams, puts together state-of-the-art stage visuals and sound effects to reimagine eight forms of Chinese intangible cultural heritage through its chapters with “avant-garde technologies”, according to the statement. Among them are the song and dance of the Miao ethnicity presented with kinetic mirror lighting programming; Khoomei, which is a vocal art form created by the Mongolians, presented with air fountain technology; and storytelling in North Shaanxi presented with laser video design and programming technology.

Tickets will also go on sale from Sunday onwards, and for more information, one can visit https://macau2049.mgm.mo/en/
