The winners of the “We Care, We Share” – Mental Health Youth Ambassador programme and the Macau Secondary School Mental Health Speech Contest were revealed during the finals and awards ceremony on Saturday at the University of Macau (UM).
According to a recent statement from the Rotary Club of Macau, over 70 students from 20 schools took part in the competition, which saw its inaugural event last year.
After attending mental health talks, public speaking workshops, group coaching and visits to Guangzhou, the participants became “Mental Health Youth Promotion Ambassadors” and received certificates. The Mental Health Speech Contest was divided into junior and senior high school divisions, and had five “outstanding contestants” go to the final round.
The statement said that Lam Ka Kam from St Joseph Parish Secondary School No. 6 and Pui Ching Middle School’s Ng Wing Sum respectively won the junior and senior high school competition, while Sacred Heart Canossian English School’s Sheng Sao Cheng as well as Pui Ching Middle School’s Ng were named as best students.
Both winners and the best students have been invited to attend next year’s Asia Pacific Rotaract Regional Conference in Mongolia, while winners will also attend next year’s Rotary International District 3450 Peace Camp in Hong Kong, according to the statement.
The statement quoted Rotary International District 3450 Assistant Governor Elvo Sou (蘇桂龍) as saying in his speech that that the activity is hoped to improve the psychological quality of young people, develop their public speaking skills and spread positive energy, as well as improve the community’s mental health.
