The Kam Pek Market on the old city’s thoroughfare, Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro (亞美打利庇盧大馬路),  has recently held its soft opening, offering up new dining options for members of the public along the city centre.

The three-storey building, formerly the Kam Pek Community Centre, is a flagship project under SJM Resort’s “San Ma Lo District Revitalisation Plan” and will open in two phases, according to a recent statement by the integrated resort operator. Its theme, meanwhile, follows “Preserving the Past, Embracing the Future”.

Marking the first phase is the building’s over 650 m2 ground floor, which boasts eight “carefully curated” dining options. Among them are those offering Chinese – including Taiwanese, Portuguese, Japanese and Thai culinary delights. The statement said that nearly 100 seats are available on the ground floor. The grand opening is set for this Sunday.

The second phase, the statement said, is slated to launch next month with eight other dining outlets to open on its first floor and nearly 130 seats across about 539 m2.

SJM Managing Director Daisy Ho Chiu Fung was quoted by the statement as saying: “By driving footfall to the area, we seek to stimulate collaborative growth within the neighbourhood, revitalise the local economy, and implement a ‘large supports small’ development model that benefits residents and businesses alike. Through this, we hope to nurture the growth of SMEs and ensure that all stakeholders can share in the fruits of economic progress.”

Daisy Ho, Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng and other government officials paid a visit to Kam Pek Market on Friday.

The market is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. More details, including the list of dining options and their offerings, are available on https://www.kampekmarket.com/en
