Following the formal start of Macau’s new government led by Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai, Macau’s fifth-term chief executive, Ho Iat Seng, stepped down yesterday from his post, who, however, according to an executive order published in the Official Gazette (BO), will continue to serve the nation and Macau.

Issued and signed by Sam, the executive order took effect yesterday, noting that Ho, who served as the third chief executive between December 20, 2019 and December 19, 2024, “will continue to serve the nation and the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) by carrying out missions or activities favourable to the interests of the nation and the MSAR,” with all the relevant necessary logistical and administrative support, including an office and support staff, a car with a driver, personal security, medical assistance and protocol treatment, as well as the associated expenses to be provided under conditions to be defined by order of the chief executive.

The executive order also noted that any financial costs shall be borne by the funds available under the expenditure budget of the Office of the Chief Executive and the Government Headquarters Affairs Bureau (DSASG).
