The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a male mainlander on Tuesday for allegedly attempting to burgle a flat near Forte Dona Maria II (馬交石砲台), PJ spokesman Cheong Kim Fong said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Cheong identified the suspect as a 48-year-old surnamed Yin who told the police that he’s jobless.
When the owner of the flat, a local elderly woman, was sleeping in her bedroom in the wee hours of Tuesday, she was awakened by a noise in another room and went to the living room where she saw a man – Yin – climbing into the flat.
She screamed for help, leading Yin to leave the flat right away. She reported the case to the police, and later confirmed that nothing had been stolen.
Yin was arrested later that day in the city centre, where police found pairs of gloves and a torch on him. Yin refused to cooperate.
Yin has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing an aggravated attempted theft charge.
