The Health Bureau (SSM) announced in a statement last night that a 75-year-old local man inflicted with chronic diseases is in a critical condition after being infected with influenza.
According to the statement, the man living in a retirement home came down with a cough on Saturday and was also coughing up phlegm, his case was then followed up by a doctor at the home.
As his symptoms worsened on Sunday when he also came down with a fever and shortness of breath, the man was rushed to the private Kiang Wu Hospital where he was hospitalised after being diagnosed with influenza A and pneumonia.
According to the statement, the man’s condition worsened later that day because of which he was transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) where he was put on a ventilator.
He was in a critical condition at the time of last night’s statement.
Kiang Wu Hospital reported the case to the Health Bureau yesterday.
The statement said that the patient had not received a seasonal flu jab.
