Macau recorded 34.9 million visitor arrivals last year, a year-on-year growth of 23.8 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.
According to a statement by the bureau this week, same-day visitors (18.88 million) and overnight visitors (16.04 milion) grew by 35.0 percent and 12.8 percent year on year respectively.
Visitors' average length of stay (1.2 days) shortened by 0.1 days last year, with that of overnight visitors remaining unchanged at 2.3 days.
Mainland Chinese visitor arrivals rose by 28.6 percent to 24.49 million, accounting for 70.1 percent of the total number of visitor arrivals. Visitors from the nine Greater Bay Area (GBA) cities in Guangdong Province rose by 28.8 percent to 11.98 million, or 34.3 percent of the total number of visitor arrivals last year.
Visitors of China's Taiwan region (834,411) rose by 64.1 percent, while those from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) reached 7.179 million, up by 0.2 percent year on year.
Macau's number of foreign visitor arrivals rose by 66 percent to 2.42 million, or 6.9 percent of the total number of visitor arrivals in 2024, including 493,399 from the Philippines, 183,062 from Indonesia, 181,941 from Malaysia, 134,658 from Thailand, 119,201 from Singapore, 103,817 from India, 492,184 from South Korea, 126,424 from Japan, and 147,941 from the United States.
Of the total number of visitors, 79.5 percent arrived by land, 11.7 percent by sea, and 8.8 percent by air.
Macau's received a record 39.4 percent visitor arrivals in pre-pandemic 2019. Last year's visitor arrivals reached 88.57 percent of the 2019 record figure.
According to the latest available official demographics, Macau's population stood at 686,600 at the end of the third quarter last year.
