The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) said in a statement yesterday that it expects the temperature to significantly drop this weekend, to 10°C or even 9°C.

As a northeast monsoon will strengthen today, this weekend’s temperature is forecast to fall significantly, and the weather will be sunny but cold, windy and very dry.

However, last night’s forecast by the observatory indicates that the intense winter monsoon is moderating at a fast rate and temperatures are expected to start recovering rapidly from the beginning of next week, with lows of 16 degrees or above by the middle of next week.

The weather for the Lantern Festival next Wednesday, February 12, is expected to be generally cloudy, with a few light showers and mist, and relatively high humidity, SMG forecast.

Residents are advised to keep abreast of the possibly rapid changes of the weather and alerts from the government and to prepare for potential temperature fluctuations, the bureau said, adding that special attention should be paid to the health of the elderly, children, and those with underlying health conditions during the expected cold spell.
