A local elderly woman has lost 1.09 million patacas in a “fake police” scam, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon said in a regular press conference yesterday.
According to Leng, a bank staff member discovered abnormal activity in a bank account of an elderly woman and reported the case to the police on Monday. The victim had received a call in December 2024, in which a man claimed to be a “mainland police officer”.
The “police officer” alleged that the victim’s personal information had been used for criminal activities. The victim provided her personal information, including her bank account password and authorisation codes to the “police officer” as he had requested, and she also made several deposits into her bank account.
Leng noted that all the money in the bank account had been transferred to others accounts, in which a total of 1.09 million patacas has been lost.
