Lawmakers yesterday expressed their individual concerns over the officially required declaration of their campaign activities, urging the Legislative Assembly Electoral Affairs Committee to set up clear guidelines.
Election candidates must declare the content, date and location of all their campaign activities, such as travelling and hosting luncheons and dinners during the campaign, to the committee, Tong Hio Fong, who heads the committee, said last week.
The committee yesterday held a meeting with most of the sitting lawmakers in the building of the Legislative Assembly to listen to their views before setting up its guidelines on election-related activities. About 20 lawmakers attended the meeting. The legislature has 33 members. The speaker of the legislature, Ho Iat Seng, attended the meeting but did not raise any question.
