The “Tribute to Brahms” concert series is slated to take place next month at the Macau Cultural Centre (CCM), featuring five concerts by the Macao Orchestra (OM) and international musicians over two consecutive weekends.

The five shows are part of Macao Orchestra’s 2024-2025 concert season.

According to a Thursday statement by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), next month’s concert series, which is a tribute to German composer, virtuoso pianist and conductor Johannes Brahms (1833-1897), comprises “Night of Grand Premiere”, “Romantic Pastoral”, “Free Flow Chamber Music Sunday”, “Niu Niu’s Concerto No.1” and “the Great Music Scores”. The concerts will take place on March 7, 8, 9, 14 and 15 respectively.

Brahm’s representative works will be performed during the concerts, among which are “Symphony No. 1 in C minor” during the “Night of Grand Premiere”, “Symphony No. 2 in D major” on “Romantic Pastoral”, and “Piano Concerto No. 1 in D minor” on “Niu Niu’s Concerto No.1”, the statement noted.

The concerts, the statement said, include performances by international musicians - Moldovan violinist Alexandra Conunova, Spanish cellist Pablo Ferrández, Czech violinist Josef Špaček, China’s pianist Zhang Shengliang (“Niu Niu”) and Russian pianist Alexei Volodin.

The statement added that Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Macao Orchestra Lio Kuokman will be conducting the “Night of Grand Premiere” and “Romantic Pastoral”, while “Niu Niu’s Concerto No. 1” and “The Great Music Scores” will be under the baton of Austrian conductor Christian Arming.
