A local young woman has lost 1,838 yuan (2,023 patacas) in a concert ticket scam, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Cheong Sio Keong said in a regular press conference yesterday.

According to Cheong, the victim saw a post on RedNote, a Chinese social networking and e-commerce platform colloquially known as “little red book”, about selling tickets for a concert in May in the mainland. She was keen to attend the concert and contacted the “seller” to buy a ticket.

The “seller” told the victim that the “ticket” costs 1,838 yuan. The victim transferred 1,838 yuan to the “seller” and received a screenshot of the “concert ticket” from the “seller”. The victim discovered that the details on the “ticket” were incorrect and contacted the “seller” again. However, the victim could no longer reach the “seller”.

As the victim had received a screenshot of the fake ticket and had lost contact with the “seller”, she suspected that she had been scammed and reported the case to the police on Sunday.

Macau has recently been hit by a wave of concert ticket online scams.
