Sam to attend NPC opening session in Beijing

Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai arrived in Beijing yesterday for the opening of the third session of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) to be held tomorrow, with his duties being temporarily assumed by Secretary for Administration and Justice André Cheong Weng Chon.

According to a statement by the Government Information Bureau (GCS) yesterday, Sam plans to stay in Beijing for four days until Thursday.

The bureau stated that “while Sam is away, Secretary for Administration and Justice André Cheong Weng Chon will be Acting Chief Executive”.

Meanwhile, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Wallis O Lam in her capacity as a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), travelled with her fellow CPPCC members and the 12 local National People’s Congress (NPC) deputies to Beijing yesterday morning.

The annual sessions of the NPC and CPPCC National Committee are collectively known as the “two sessions”.
