Iao Hon Municipal Market’s cooked food centre was found to be infested with rodents yesterday, and the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) sent officials to conduct deep cleaning and disinfection, according to an IAM statement yesterday.

According to online footage, rodents have recently been seen scurrying along the air-conditioning ceiling pipes in the cooked food area, which is located on the third floor of the Iao Hon Municipal Market.

Upon receiving the report, the bureau dispatched inspectors to the cooked food area in the wet market, and also carried out comprehensive inspections of its other markets and cooked food centres to strengthen anti-rodent and environmental hygiene measures in the affected areas, the statement said.

The statement did not say whether the cooked food centre needed to be closed down for disinfection and cleansing.

The bureau ordered the management company of the wet market to properly manage the cooked food areas on a daily basis while also placing more rodent bait and traps in the public stall area, and to use diluted bleach to clean and disinfect the ceiling pipes.

In addition, the bureau also requested the stallholders to step up cleansing and rubbish disposal at their stalls, and order their staff to inspect the hygiene condition of their stalls, so as to maintain the overall environmental hygiene of the cooked food centre.
