The Transport Bureau (DSAT) has been working on improving the street parking spaces for motorbikes and cars in various local districts by phases, in which the motorcycle parking spaces on the side of Rua de Santa Clara (家辣堂街), near the Octagonal Library Pavilion, have meanwhile been converted from straight to angled spaces.*

According to a DSAT statement on Friday, the bureau is gradually converting existing motorbike parking spaces into angled parking, subject to certain conditions. Rua de Santa Clara will be the first pilot site for this year’s adjustments, with an expected 90 angled parking spaces for motorcycles becoming available soon.

In the next phase of adjustments, the statement noted, more angled parking spaces for motorbikes will be provided on the side of Jardim de S. Francisco (加思欄花園), followed by the lengthening of the 23 metered parking spaces for cars to an average of 5.5 metres, both of which are expected to become available late this month.

The bureau stated that the adjustments were initiated after considering the views of various road stakeholders, including community groups and advisory organisations, as well as assessing factors such as road conditions and pedestrian and traffic safety, adding it expected more than 2,000 motorbike parking spaces to be converted into angled parking by the end of this year.

The bureau also pledged that in future, priority will also be given to installing angled parking racks in narrower areas.
