LISBOETA SKATEPARK will have its soft opening tomorrow at the Lisboeta Macau H853 Outdoor Event Space in Cotai, marking the introduction of Macau’s first outdoor extreme sports facility within the integrated resort, according to a statement provided by the hotel and entertainment complex.
The park is managed by the Macau Skateboarding Sports Culture and Development General Association (MSSCDGA), a collective of four skateboarding associations, including the Macau Association of Skateboarding Culture, Macau Association of Skateboarding Development, Macau Association of Skateboarding Exchange and Learning, and Macau Skateboarding Association. The current board members of the associations are engaged in skateboarding and have witnessed the growth of skateboarding in Macau since the 1990s, according to the statement.
The statement noted that the associations aim to provide a “safe and professional exercise venue for both locals and travellers.”
The statement said that skateboarding has been around since the 1940s and gained global popularity over time. It was officially recognised as an Olympic sport during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The partnership between the integrated resort and MSSCDGA seeks to attract enthusiasts from the Greater Bay Area (GBA), offering “professional training and events.”
The GBA comprises nine cities in Guangdong Province and the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau.
