Lawmaker Song Pek Kei urged the city’s gaming operators yesterday to provide training programmes for their female casino staff with more flexible schedules.

Song, who heads the Alliance for Common People Building Up Macau (API), made the remarks on the sidelines of a forum held by her group about protecting female casino workers’ rights at the association’s headquarters in Areia Preta. The forum was held on the eve of International Women’s Day. About 100 female casino employees attended the session.

Song also said that many women were under great pressure since it was hard for them to balance work and family, adding she believed female casino workers are facing even greater pressure as those working in other sectors as many of them need to work shifts, leading them to not getting enough sleep or not spending enough time with the family.
