IAM returns Coloane Market site to SAR

In announcing the permanent closure of Coloane Market, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) indicated late last year that it would begin a study on the positioning of the in-situ development of the market – however, according to an executive order published in the Official Gazette (BO) yesterday, the bureau notified the Secretariat for Public Works and Transport by letter in September last year of its intention to relinquish the plot of land used by the wet market, returning the land as “state property” to the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government.

Coloane Market, after the last two remaining vendors had returned their stalls to the Municipal Affairs Bureau in November last year, officially closed for good on December 16. At that time, the bureau indicated that it was conducting a study on the future development of the site of Coloane Market, pointing out that the market building would be “revitalised” following the gathering of public opinion on the future of the market in line with the overall planning and development of Coloane.

The Official Gazette published yesterday the executive order about Coloane Market signed by Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raymond Tam Vai Man last Tuesday. It revealed that the Municipal Affairs Bureau, through a letter dated September 25 last year, formally declared that it would relinquish the Coloane Market site. With immediate effect, the plot of land, including the building erected there, reverts as “state property” to the local government without any liability or encumbrance, incorporating it into Macau’s land reservation system.

The executive order states that Coloane Market lies adjacent to Ramalho Eanes Garden, with a revised area of 299 square metres after re-measurement and a land value of about 23.2 million patacas. It added that the land ownership has not been registered with the Land Registry and Mapping Bureau (DSCC).
