The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a Friday statement that an interdepartmental citywide cleanup campaign will be held from April 1 through May 31.

An interdepartmental team comprised of representatives from multiple government entities called the “urban appearance and cleanliness working team” will organise the campaign, the statement noted.

Kicking off with an inaugural ceremony on Saturday (April 5) in Iao Hon Market Park, teams will be formed to enter various neighbourhoods and clean leisure activity areas, according to the statement. Promotional materials will also be distributed along the way to “enhance public awareness of cleanliness and hygiene management”, and encourage people to work together for rodent and mosquito eradication, according to the statement.

Food establishments and processing plants, as well as construction sites, will also be visited to urge the adoption of effective food and solid waste treatment measures, maintaining cleanliness and environmental hygiene, and preventing rodent and other pest infestation in the community.

Similar events are slated for May 10 at Rotunda de Carlos da Maia and San Kio.

Meanwhile, roving photo exhibitions aimed at introducing environmental hygiene information will also be held in various neighbourhoods from April 1 to May 31, while on-site street kiosks will be providing information at weekends.

The statement added that the interdepartmental team and associations will also target “three no’s” buildings (buildings with no owner committee, no resident organisation and no management entity) to enhance awareness on environmental hygiene and rodent and mosquito control.

There will also be talks for residents to discuss hygiene questions that they encounter in their daily lives, the statement said. Moreover, the team will conduct inspections and random inspections at food establishments to explore factors like food safety, environmental hygiene, and rodent and mosquito control measures.
