The Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) Presents: Literature and Cultural Festival for Parents and Children “Alphabet & Friends” kicked off on Friday, with the around month-long event showcasing a variety of activities in its programme, among which are an exhibition titled “The Robot & I”.
Also having been launched during Friday’s opening ceremony, the free-admission exhibition is located at Instituto Português do Oriente’s (IPOR) Café Oriente in the building of the Portuguese Consulate-General in the city centre and presents both artworks and robotics.
Those visiting the exhibition will be able to admire robots and robot-related art created by students from local schools and universities. The exhibits, according to a statement from the organisers, are the result of a challenge set up by IPOR in the field of robotics.
There are also eight 3D digital sculptures by local Portuguese artist, multimedia professional and invited exhibition sponsor José Nyogéri on display, including a few of his works previously showcased in a 2023 exhibition entitled “Pneuma” (“the ancient Greek word for “breath”).
The ongoing exhibition, according to the statement, is aimed at exploring “the beneficial and/or harmful effects that may arise from the use of Artificial Intelligence, particularly in education”.
Exhibitiongoers may admire the works in “The Robot and I” from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily.
Letras & Companhia marks 5th edition
Marking its fifth edition and running through May 6, the festival is jointly organised by IPOR and the Consulate General of Portugal in Macau. It is title-sponsored by GEG.
Activities throughout the period include a children’s book fair at IPOR called “Alphabet Market”, various workshops, book presentations and shows, among others. This year exploring the topic of AI, its programme information notes that the theme aims to raise awareness among the local community on the risks and challenges involved in AI, along with its presence in daily life and how it can be used to “benefit children’s education and social development”.
