The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) said in a statement last night that Macau was expected to remain affected by “very bad” air quality or even a “severe level” of air quality today due to the continued influence of dusty weather associated with a northeast monsoon.
According to yesterday’s announcements by the observatory, Macau was affected by very bad air quality and even a severe level of air quality throughout different times yesterday due to the dusty weather affecting South China.
A separate statement by the bureau yesterday morning noted that the dusty weather affecting South China has been caused by a dust storm affecting the country’s northern areas.
Yesterday morning’s statement said that “the dusty weather in Macau is primarily caused by strong surface winds in northern regions lifting dust particles, which have then been transported southwards to South China and the Pearl River Estuary by northeastern monsoon winds”.
According to the bureau’s website, two of Macau’s six air quality monitoring stations recorded a “very bad” air quality level late last night, while the other four stations even recorded a “severe level” of air quality.
