Woman falsely accuses man of rape over gambling deal

A 36-year-old woman from the mainland falsely reported to the police last week that she had been raped by a man in a hotel guestroom after he broke his promise to “help her win money” at the gaming tables after they had consensual sex, a Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesperson said during a regular press conference on Friday.

The woman surnamed Zheng told the police that she works as a saleswoman in the mainland.

According to the spokesperson, the woman met the man in a casino in Cotai earlier last week, who told her that he was adept at gambling and that he could “help her win money” playing at the tables.

The spokesperson said that after the woman gambled away all her money in the casino on Wednesday last week, she contacted the man asking him to help her start winning, after which she agreed to meet him in her hotel guestroom to discuss a deal.

According to the spokesperson, the man told Zheng that he would only help her if she had sex with him first.

Zheng agreed to the deal, but after the consensual sex, he came up with excuses to leave the guestroom, in response to which she chased after him but was unable to catch him, the spokesperson said.

As the woman thought that the man had deceived her into having consensual sex with him without intending to help her start winning, she called the police in the early hours of Thursday falsely claiming that he had raped her.

The spokesperson said that after scrutinising CCTV footage and examining other evidence, PJ officers discovered that the information provided by Zheng was inconsistent with the details of the case, because of which they questioned her again when she finally admitted to falsely accusing the man of rape.

Zheng has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of making a false police report.

Police bust 4 Filipinos for drug offences

Meanwhile, the spokesperson also announced on Friday that four Filipinos were arrested together last week for drug abuse, two of whom had also been selling drugs to compatriots since last month.

The four suspects comprise a local Filipino and three non-resident workers (NRW).

The local Filipino is one of the two suspected drug traffickers. After PJ officers arrested them in the city centre on Wednesday last week, they went to their home where they nabbed two compatriots who were taking drugs there, the spokesperson said.

All the four suspects tested positive for drugs, but the spokesperson did not reveal what kind of drugs they had taken.
