A local elderly man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly sexually harassing a female primary school student in the street, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Wai Chon said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Wong identified the suspect as an 86-year-old man surnamed Wong who is jobless.
Wong did not reveal the girl’s age, merely saying that she is a primary school student.
According to the victim’s statement to the police, she was walking along Avenida do General Castelo Branco (白朗古將軍大馬路) with a friend on Thursday at 5 p.m. when the suspect approached her and touched her hip. The victim told her mother about the incident later that evening. They then went to a police station to file a complaint.
The police identified Wong as the suspect through citywide CCTV surveillance. The footage confirmed that Wong approached the victim and touched her hip. He was apprehended on Sunday near his flat in Fai Chi Kei (筷子基). Under questioning, Wong admitted to walking along the street but denied sexually harassing the victim.
Wong has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), where he is facing a charge of sexually harassing a child.
