The government should consider converting idle plots of land into sports venues for residents, Choi Tat Meng, who heads the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations (commonly known as Kai Fong), said yesterday.
Choi, who also heads the association’s sports committee, made the suggestion on the sidelines of a press conference at the group’s community service centre in Toi San district about the annual Sports Days hosted by his group, which will take place from this month to July.Pointing out the results of a survey of the city’s plots of undeveloped land carried out by his association last year, which showed there are 390 plots of vacant land on the peninsula alone, Choi said: “Wouldn’t it be possible for [the government] to convert some plots of idle land which it has repossessed into sports venues for residents?”
