At a special press conference on Friday, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon announced a case of aggravated theft and fraud totalling 102,000 patacas that took place in a flat in a residential building on Avenida do General Castelo Branco (白朗古將軍大馬路) in Fai Chi Kei district.
The suspect is a 37-year-old Filipina domestic helper surnamed Escape.
According to Leng, the case was referred to the Judiciary Police by the Public Security Police (PSP) at 10:30 p.m. on Friday. The victim, a local woman, had been keeping gold items and cash in a locked cabinet in her bedroom wardrobe since 2020. She employed the helper in 2023. On Thursday she discovered that 14 gold items and 2,000 patacas in cash had vanished from the wardrobe.
Investigations revealed that the suspect stole her employer’s belongings on several occasions between December 2024 and April 2025 and hocked them at various pawnshops in Macau.
At the time of the press conference, the Judiciary Police had recovered 11 items of gold valued at 75,650 patacas from two pawnshops. The suspect admitted that she had used the ill-gotten money for daily expenses.
The domestic helper has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) for further investigation, facing aggravated theft and fraud charges.
