TDM marked yesterday the 41st Anniversary of its official launch as Macau’s public TV and radio broadcaster at TDM Forum II Studio in Zape, and also held the ceremony for its channel “TDM Ou Mun” to be telecast in the Chinese mainland and its TV channel “Ou-Mun Macau” to be shown in Portuguese-speaking countries.
“Ou Mun” is Macau’s name in Cantonese. Nine countries have Portuguese as their official language – Angola, Brazil, Cabo Verde (Cape Verde), Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor-Leste (East Timor).
The event also included a ceremony for the premiere of its TV series “Choi Kei Cha Chaan Teng”.*
Yesterday, two important ceremonies were held by TDM, namely the landing ceremony of “TDM Ou Mun” TV channel in mainland China, and the landing ceremony of “Ou-Mun Macau” satellite TV channel in Portuguese-speaking countries.
This means that the TV broadcasting signals of TDM will gradually cover the Chinese mainland and Portuguese-speaking countries, and in the future, viewers in more regions will be able to receive information about Macau “flexibly and conveniently, thus further realising the important role of the media in cultural exchanges”, and connecting the mainland with the rest of the world.
In order to promote cultural exchanges, TDM has translated 3,600 minutes of self-produced Chinese language programmes into Portuguese for broadcasting overseas, including programmes showcasing Macau’s special characteristics such as “Cultural Heritage of Famous Cities – Macau” and “Macau’s Old Shops – Inheritance”, as well as the Portuguese translation of the TV drama series “Hometown of the Stars”, which tells mainland and Macau stories to the audiences of Portuguese-speaking countries.
With the anniversary celebration being broadcast, the public broadcaster has also recorded its “TDM 41st Anniversary Variety Show”, which includes the singers of “The Voice of Ou-Mun”, children’s street dance performances, a brand-new situation drama “Choi Kei Cha Chaan Teng”, a special edition of “TDM’s Anniversary” and a sports-themed segment to warm up for the preparation of the 2026 World Cup.
