The government announced yesterday that it has completed drafting amendments to Macau’s anti-drug law proposing to add various substances to the law’s drug list, including etomidate* which is the main active ingredient of a new drug with the street name “space oil”.
The law is officially known as the Law on the Prohibition of the Illicit Production, Trafficking and Consumption of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances.
A statement by the government’s top advisory Executive Council yesterday said that the government will submit the amendment bill to the Legislative Assembly (AL), requesting an urgent procedure for the bill’s debate and vote, according to which it will not be arranged for review by any of the legislature’s standing committees before its final article-by-article debate and vote. Therefore, after the passage of the bill’s outline during an upcoming plenary session to be scheduled by the legislature, its final article-by-article debate and vote will then be immediately carried out.
In addition to etomidate, according to the statement, the amendment bill also proposes to list metomidate, propoxate, and isopropoxate, all of which are analogues of etomidate, in the anti-drug law.
