The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) forecast in a statement yesterday persistent rainfall – traditionally known as “Dragon-Boat Rain” – to affect Macau for a few days from tomorrow.

The bureau predicted that a southwest monsoon will intensify by mid-week, as moist and warm air will interact with a trough and cold air, intense convective activity is expected, bringing persistent rainfall to southern China.

This phenomenon is commonly known as “Dragon-Boat-Rain”.*

According to the statement Macau began to be influenced by easterly winds yesterday, and the weather will be relatively sunny with slightly cooler mornings and evenings today.

From tomorrow, the southwest monsoon will strengthen, transporting warm, moist air from the Bay of Bengal and the South China Sea to southern China. Combined with the influence of a trough, showers will increase from tomorrow night to Thursday, with heavier rain and thunderstorms.

The bureau urged residents to stay updated on weather alerts. For Dragon-Boat Festival on Saturday, the observatory forecast mostly cloudy weather with occasional showers, slightly stronger winds, and cooler mornings and evenings. Conditions are expected to improve afterwards, the bureau said.
