The Commission Against Corruption (CCAC) aims to boost residents’ awareness and understanding of clean elections and foster a social atmosphere that supports fair elections, according to a “challenge competition” hosted by Macau’s graft busters in Praça do Tap Seac (塔石廣場) yesterday.

CCAC Commissioner Ao Ieong Seong told reporters during the one-day event that it was part of the promotional campaign for the upcoming Legislative Assembly elections.

The event was themed “A clean vote lights up Macau”, aiming to encourage permanent residents to take their vote seriously and elect “suitable” representatives. According to Ao Ieong, the event also aimed to promote knowledge of Macau’s electoral laws.

Ao Ieong also mentioned that the CCAC has so far received over 50 reports and complaints related to the upcoming elections, with about 17 cases warranting follow-up investigation. However, as most are still under investigation, details could not be disclosed at this time, Ao Ieong said.

The four-hour event included team competitions and side activities. A total of 20 teams participated in the challenge, with each team consisting of four members, at least one of whom had to be female. All participants were required to be Macau residents aged 17 or above. The competition featured four checkpoints designed to test participants’ knowledge of clean elections, as well as their reflexes, physical fitness, and teamwork.

Additionally, various side activities were set up at the venue, including game booths themed around clean elections and competitions open for on-site registration by the public.

Macau’s direct and indirect Legislative Assembly elections will be held on Sunday, September 14.
