The Public Security Police (PSP) announced at the weekend that as of Saturday afternoon, the number of entries and exits at Macau’s border checkpoints so far this year had reached about 100 million, achieving this 18 days earlier than the previous year.
According to a PSP statement on Saturday, driven by favourable policies such as the “One Trip Per Week” scheme, multiple-entry permits, and “Northbound Travel for Macau Vehicles,” Macau’s border checkpoints have maintained so far this year a consistently high flow of inbound and outbound travellers, with immigration clearance numbers repeatedly hitting record highs. The daily average of people passing through Macau’s checkpoints has reached 633,000 so far this year, marking a 10.8 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
The Barrier Gate checkpoint became the first of Macau’s various border checkpoints to exceed 50 million cross-border trips so far this year on May 30, while the Macau-Hengqin checkpoint and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge’s local checkpoint also recorded annual immigration clearance figures of 10 million passengers on May 7 and May 9 respectively, achieving the figures earlier than in the previous year.
Officially, Macau’s checkpoints are known in English as “ports”.
