A man from the mainland was arrested on Monday for sexually harassing a local woman, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Kong Chi Ian said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Kong identified the suspect as a male surnamed Zhang in his sixties, who claimed to be retired. The victim is a local woman in her thirties.
According to the victim’s statement to the police, while she was queuing at a supermarket on Avenida do Dr. Rodrigo Rodrigues (羅理基博士大馬路) on Sunday, the suspect stood behind her and touched her hip. The victim reported the case to the police later that day.
Through citywide CCTV surveillance and footage from the supermarket, the police identified Zhang as the suspect and apprehended him on Monday in Rua de Pequim (北京街). Under questioning, Zhang only admitted to accidentally touching the victim’s hip. However, Kong noted that the CCTV footage clearly showed Zhang approaching the victim and touching her hip deliberately.
Zhang has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of sexual harassment.
