The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) launched its “Experience Macao” Carnival in Hong Kong on Saturday, showcasing the city’s summer attractions through interactive exhibits and performances, according to a statement by Macau’s tourism promotion entity on that day.
The two-day event, which was held through Sunday, was held at East Point City and aimed to “inspire Hong Kong residents to enjoy a summer vacation in Macau” under the theme “Vibrant Summer, Explore Macao.”
MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes emphasised Hong Kong’s importance as a key source market. The statement noted that in the first five months of the year, Hong Kong visitor arrivals to Macau exceeded 3.03 million. Senna Fernandes, as noted in the statement, also said she hoped that the roadshow will “spark Hong Kong residents’ interest in visiting Macau.”
The event featured celebrity appearances from Hong Kong boy band MIRROR members Jeremy Lee Chun-kit and Stanley Yau Sze-chun, singer Windy Zhan Tian-wen, and table tennis stars Ng Wing Nam and Lee Ho Ching, who spoke about their favourite Macau travel experiences. Interactive zones, namely the “Historic Centre of Macao” and the “Trendy Fun Macao” zones, were set up during the event. They provided photo opportunities at a replica of the iconic Macau Municipal Affairs (IAM) Building, formerly known as Leal Senado (“Loyal Senate”), and explored Macau’s heritage through donning Portuguese costumes.
Moreover, the carnival also featured a booth run by the Economic Development Bureau of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.
Travel deals from major Hong Kong agencies including China Travel Service (CTS) and KKday were offered exclusively during the carnival. MGTO said it planned further promotional campaigns to maintain Hong Kong visitor interest throughout the summer season.
