Zhuhai’s Gongbei Customs has announced in a statement that its officers have caught a truck driver attempting to smuggle 14 Apple iMacs from Macau into the mainland at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Zhuhai border checkpoint.

According to the statement, on June 14 at noon, during the supervision of cargo inspections at the Zhuhai checkpoint of the delta bridge, customs officers discovered that a truck registered as “empty” and with licence plates from Guangdong and Macau, was being driven in an unusual pattern in an attempt to evade customs checks.

The statement said that as a result, officers intercepted the truck. Upon inspection, the officers found 14 undeclared Apple iMac computers hidden under a pallet in the vehicle’s cargo area.

According to the official Apple website, the 14 units retail at 122,401 patacas in Macau. The computers have been handed over to the relevant departments for further processing in accordance with regulations, the statement said.

In the statement, Gongbei Customs reminded the public that according to relevant regulations, evading customs supervision by hiding and taking goods subject to taxes into the mainland constitutes smuggling. If the circumstances are severe enough to constitute a crime, criminal liability will be pursued.
