A local university student was arrested last Wednesday for stealing an e-scooter worth 2,400 patacas from a university mate, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Lai identified the suspect as a male surnamed Hon, who is in his twenties.

According to Lai, a local university student reported in mid-April that his e-scooter, which he had parked in the corridor of a university in Taipa, had vanished.

Using the police forces’ citywide and university’s CCTV surveillance footage, the police identified Hon as the suspect and summoned him to a police station last Wednesday.

Under questioning, Hon admitted to breaking the scooter’s lock and riding away on it, but returning it later and parking it in the same spot. Police later retrieved the scooter from the corridor.

According to Lai, Hon has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft charge.
