A male non-resident worker (NRW) from Vietnam and a mainland visitor were arrested on Tuesday for selling and using drugs respectively, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Lei Chi Hou said during a special press conference yesterday.
Lei identified the suspects as a 31-year-old NRW surnamed Mai who works as a kitchen helper, and a 32-year-old mainlander surnamed Song who claimed to be jobless and had entered Macau on a travel permit.
According to Lei, based on a tipoff, the Judiciary Police (PJ) suspected Mai of selling drugs in the city centre. At 1 a.m. on Tuesday, police discovered that Mai had hidden drugs in the stairwell of his residential building. When Song arrived to collect the drugs, the police intercepted him and seized a small packet of methamphetamine (commonly known as ice) weighing 0.66 grams. At 4 a.m., police apprehended Mai as he was leaving his flat, seizing two packets of ice weighing 2.26 grams and five ecstasy pills from a hidden area in the corridor outside his flat.
Lei noted that the police seized 2.92 grams of ice and five ecstasy pills in total, with an estimated street value of 10,000 patacas. Both suspects tested negative for methamphetamine.
Under questioning, Mai admitted to selling drugs via online chat platforms after work for the past two weeks, while Song admitted to purchasing drugs from Mai for personal use at a cost of HK$5,000 (5,150 patacas).
The duo were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, where Mai is facing a charge of selling drugs, while Song is facing a charge of drug use.
