The Macao Chinese Orchestra will be presenting its 2024-2025 Season Closing Concert titled “Auspicious Arrival” on July 26, with tickets for the show featuring timeless classical works now available.
The upcoming concert at Macau Cultural Centre’s (CCM) Grand Auditorium, to be led by the orchestra’s Music Director and Principal Conductor Zhang Lie, is slated to have a programme that blends Chinese classics with “the legendary essence of Peking Opera”, a Thursday statement from the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) noted.
Audiences will be able to hear performances featuring jinghu* virtuoso Wang Caiyun, yangqin** soloist Liu Yinxuan, and soprano Cui Rui.
The statement said that Liu will perform the Yangqin Concerto “Rhapsody” by composer Wang Danhong, while Wang Caiyun and the orchestra will perform “Spirit of Beijing” by contemporary Chinese composer and musician Wu Hua.
Meanwhile, soprano Cui Rui will present “Farewell My Concubine”, which the statement said is a “national symphonic poem” composed by Guan Xia.
The concert will start at 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 26. Tickets are priced between 120 patacas and 380 patacas, with more details available on www.macauticket.com.
* The jinghu (which, literally translated, means “Beijing fiddle”) is a traditional Chinese string instrument, often associated with Chinese opera and folk music. It is a two-stringed instrument that is a part of the huqin family and is played with a bow. The instrument is known for its high pitch and bright tone – Poe/DeepSeek
**The yangqin (“foreign zither” – as it originates from Persia) is a traditional Chinese hammered dulcimer and is widely used in Chinese folk music and orchestras. It features a trapezoidal shape and is played by striking its strings with bamboo mallets. It produces a bright, resonant sound. – Poe/DeepSeek
